There is a ton of information out there about how to use social media to market your business and a lot of it is really helpful, but there are three things that are commonly taught that in my experience don’t apply for composers.
Myth Number 1:
You should be on all the platforms all the time. That’s just not true. Take a look at any composer or publishing company or composer and you’ll see that most have one or two platforms where they excel. Maybe when you’re starting out it’s good to try all of them but eventually, I would recommend focusing your attention on the accounts that are getting the biggest followings.
Myth Number 2:
You have to publish on a set schedule. While it’s true that consistency is a good thing, and depending on what you do your audience may come to expect certain kinds of posts, it’s much more important to focus on having something worth saying than to stress about the schedule of when you’re going to say it.
Myth Number 3:
You need to go viral to be successful. If you happen to go viral, that’s great, but trying to force it isn’t going to get you anywhere especially if you’re trying to do it by being something that you’re not.
